Stainless steel is a very common material
Stainless steel is a very common material. It is found in many types of products including kitchen utensils, appliances and construction materials. Hot rolled stainless steel is the most common type of stainless steel and is known as 18-10 stainless steel. Cold rolled stainless steel is very similar to hot rolled stainless steel except that it is treated with cold rolling reductions after the rolling process.
These cold reductions add hardness to the surface. Cold rolled stainless steel is much harder than hot rolled stainless steel.
When it comes to choosing a stainless steel, you should hot rolled stainless steel consider what type of product you will be using it for. Hot rolled stainless steel is usually stronger than cold rolled stainless steel, but not as strong as forged stainless steel. Forged stainless steel is made by first heating the steel to a specific temperature. The heat causes the carbon in the steel to be converted into graphite.
After this process, the steel is then allowed to cool, which makes the steel very hard and brittle. Because of its hardness, forged stainless steel is not used as much in the home as some other types of stainless steel.
